Getting long boot times, sluggish access times, etc...no recent load-in's, no virus' etc....

How do i determine what spec/type of new HDD to look for?

I seem to remember its called a SATA????

What is your motherboard? SATA drives are all supposed to be compatible, even with the revised SATA standard you should be able to use newer drives with an older motherboard but you might need to set jumpers to get it working correctly.

Mobo is the dreaded A8NE-FM....skt 939.

I can't find that exact model on the Asus website but all the A8N series support the SATA 300mb/s standard so any SATA drive should work absolutely fine.
