How do I lighten my skin?

Ok...OP here's the issue with you posting this many people who live in England are white do not understand the concept of skin whitening.

It seems ridiculous at first, OMG they are doing that who are they Michale Jackson etc.

Then when you point out the numerous tanning salons, and tanning products on the shelves they notice the hypocrisy. Why don't white people like their white skin? Why do they want to paint themselves like a wall, or permanantly damage their skin under tanning beds?

There are skin whitening products that are sold in supermarkets just like Johnsons Tanning Cream that gently lighten your skin, however, they are not sold in this country.

Just type in Nivea Whitening Cream on google. However, i doubt you could source any.

The manufacturer would probably be called racist that's why ;)

But if you seriously want to lighten your skin stay in the shade/ indoors for a few weeks/ months and you will notice a big difference as everyone around you gently tans throughout the summer.

^Well I can't really ignore my mother now, plus I have the darkest skin in the family and look outa place.

Thank you Rossyl, good points and didn't think to look for cream

The paint just reminds me of the supermarket scene in American History X.

lol omg did i just read this?

why cant you ignore your mother? so if she says get lighter skin you just say OK MUM? LOL

and so what if you have the darkest skin in your family? how does that make you look 'out of place' exactly? who that you know judges you by the colour of your skin?

i might be on the wrong end of the stick here, but just seems VERY silly that your mum and you have a problem about you being a bit darker then normal

Ignore your mom tbh. The odds of you being able to lighten your skin tone without chemical intervention are slim, and really you should learn to accept it.

I'm just acknowledging what my mother says and am curious about techniques and why my skin didn't return to its original colour after going on holiday. I'm not looking for a Micheal Jackson fix. Thought it could be something in my diet too if it was a consequence of lack of sufficient water, vitamins, fruits etc.

I can accept my skin but it just popped in my mind when I was looking through some old photos.
