Hi there, please can you tell me how I can run this file as administrator:

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

this host file has no type to it? by that I mean it doesnt have .exe on the end or anything like that...anyways I cant work out how I can run it as administrator, someone told me of a shortcut in the past where you press two keys on the keyboard and then click on the icon of anything and then windows automatically runs it as administrator and bypasses the usual message.

The reason why am asking is because I need to modify this file but everytime I modify it and try to save it wont let me save it because it says I dont have the admin rights.

Thanks in advance,

run notepad (or your favourite text editor) as administrator, then open the file within that, it is the easiest way

can you not login to the machine as an administrator or add you account into the local admins?

We are talking about vista here and everyone should know that you don't get full administrator rites for the programs you want to run even if you are using a account with full admin rites.
