Hi all..

Ive just set up a new removal business and want to make (or have made) a website(must have email) but dont really have a clue how to do it..
I was just going to register a domain with www.1and1.co.uk on there business package for £8.99 a month but dont really know if this is a good deal or not????

can anyone give me a bit of help please :) :)

I've asked a mod to move this to Html, Graphics and Programming. As this is the wrong forum.

You'll either have to learn HTML and CSS, and even PHP.
HTML, for the content, CSS for Layout, Style. PHP for Helping with databases and dynamic things.

Take a look here, http://www.w3schools.com/.

I'd happily help you out for some beer tokens. I've been doing webdesign for a while and have a failry good CSS template which works well, plus I'll happily do it free as I need the practice and fancy the challenge. Your hosting package might not be the best deal.

I use TSOHOST (think one of the guys on here runs it or owns it - DAZ I think). Their pricing and package deals are really good.

Regarding the website build, let me know. Fensta (at) btinternet (dot) com

You don't need to know any coding at all. You can use microsoft frontpage or similar and upload the pages to the server. You can even use your own pc to host your website for free.

But quite frankly for a business, those types of pages would appear unprofessional and give off a bad impression in my eyes, a nice mark-up that's acceptable to the accessability standards is a good website, and a lot better than a frontpage could create.

I'd happily help too, I'll be the second in line to be a free webdesigner, I'm currently re-doing my portfolio and would like any client as experience. Thanks.

Yeah I suppose it depends how big the business is. I must admit I've seen some awful looking websites for multi-million pound companies, a plain white background and huge gaps of wasted space and 2 inches of unused monitor space at the sides of the page. Oh and the bane of all websites, frames. :( Dreamweaver can give some nice looking pages though even though it has some annoying problems.

Go on then, redo my horrible thing if your desperate for projects. Link to current one in sig. ;)

It's very easy m8 ,nothing to it . But first you want some webpage design software. I use Dreamweaver but there are others .I had downloaded some software ages ago and only recently installed them to see what they were like and WOW , one was Site Spinner and the other was webpage maker . One of them ,cannot remember which, had ready made sites ,you just had to add your own details and upload them . Really looked professional for someone who didn't have the time to start from new.Yes , register your domain , then find a host .I have two sites and my host only charges £25 for each domain a year , your only getting 500mb each but I find that OK. My domain registration is £11 every 2 years [for each domain]. You will a need a program to upload your site , I use a one by a company called Ipswitch and have never had any trouble with it.Start off in a small way , then progress as and when you get the time . Some companys charge the quite a bit of money and have all sorts of add ons to make money. If you just need a small web site with a few pages ,far better do it yourself .We'll help you out if you get stuck .

How big is your website likely to be, if its just a small website with a couple of pages (as your a small business I assume thats the case) have a look at some of the free hosting options instead. Youll still have to buy a domain name but the hosting will be completly free. Have a look at Awardspace , totally free and no popups/unders adds etc. :)

I don't get you guys sometimes. Most people coming here asking for someone to do them a website get shot down. In this thread 2 members offer immediately.

There's a rather large difference between:

Someone make me a website for free thanks

and:

How do I learn to make a website?

I guess some people have different intentions, and for us two who offered, I'd say we have a small portfolio and would just like to create a website, even if the money side of things is non-existant. The more clients in your portfolio generally the more recognised you'll become. :)

oh and messiah - you're on, i'll start it soon. :)

Did I ask what in HGP? This thread was moved before I replied to it.

Rob: What I don't get is that certain members will have an absolute fit when somebody asks for a free website, but when it's worded as "Might just get someone to make it for me then" offers come in straight away.

Tom: I know why you're offering, thats fair enough. I've done quite a few free bits and bobs for OcUK members. Mostly as an excersise for myself, or because I'm bored, or just feeling helpful.

Nevermind anyway.

To the OP: get these talented individuals to make you something (you're in good hands) and host it somewhere like TSOHost who are generally highly rated. Most recently I went with http://web-hosting.uk.com/packages/ - £19/year because I needed ASP. But yeah, TSO do some good packages.
