I've been messing with this new SSD for a few weeks now trying to work out what's causing it to crash, but before I finally give up on this Vertex 3 and send it back, I'd like to try and clone the original HDD onto it, Just in case I've missed some random driver not available on the MSI site.

Are there any other issues doing this is going to cause?

I used Acronise True Image to clone my Hard disc to my SSD and vice versatile without issues.

Firmware was the first thing I upgraded 2.06 > 2.11

I will have a search for the acronise software then. Ta

Try the latest Firmware... I'm probably going to Intel instead, but so far (3 hours later, my Force 3 is running nicely on Firmware 1.3)

It's literally the easiest update I've ever done... read the instructions and it took 10 seconds...

I was thinking of going to an Intel SSD too but the read and write speeds don't look so good and the 120GB one I've been looking at is over £200. Still, least it would be stable.

Yup Acronis here too,

It situations where Ive needed an OS reinstall has cutdown the time needed to around 15 mins. Fantastic pioece of software, everyone shoudl own it tbh.

Thanks,
Will do that once have copied the ssd to one of the seagates. :)

There's loads of drive cloning software available online, not sure about any freeware though. I use Handybackup, I guess you could select which files you want to backup and just select the whole drive

Although I haven't tried it yet, I get the feeling when i plug in the SSD made by OCZ, that one is going to throw a wobbly too. :D

Will have to wait until the SATA drive enclosure I've just ordered turns up anyway as I have no other way of connecting it up to the laptop externally.

There is an eSATA port on this thing and I nearly bought a £3 lead.... but what powers the external SDD without an external PSU as well??
So bought the enclosure instead.
