is there anyway to overclock a cpu when it and the muliplier are locked ?besides using ntune?

ive managed to get my q6600 upto 2.6ghz through ntune but i want to do it the correct way through the bios, im currently using a dell xps 720

I vaugly remember a way using a key combo on some of the older dell mobos that would allow you to access more things. Try a google on your mobo and see if that still exists.

We almost died inside when we found the BIOS utterly empty. Feeling as if we’d just walked into an abandoned Wild West town, complete with tumbleweeds, we poked our head around the place to see whether anything could be salvaged.

Much to our dismay, there was still nothing. We couldn’t change the CPU multiplier or FSB, let alone touch the voltages. Not just the CPU, though – the voltages of anything. Not a memory divider or latency setting in sight. The BIOS was, without a doubt, the most barren BIOS we have ever ventured into, especially for a system marketed at the enthusiast.

having looked inside a DELL, just about the only "normal" things are the gfx/mem/cpu...... everything else is a special format, shape, or whatever.

To upgrade a DELL in any decent way, you need a new mobo, PSU, and case. And at that point TBH its no longer a "DELL"

lol, i know dell like to be dirrerent ( even though i own one im goin to say, being different is not always better). with dell the main flaw is the lack of upgradeability and obviously for overclockers the lack of access in the bios

the case is good on the 720, and the cooling is quite good ,comes with 750psu. i think ill need to buy an adaptor when/if i decide to upgrade to sli 8800gtx :(

Dell are built to be disposable. When it doesn't work any more or doesn't do what you need Dell want you to buy a new one.

Do just that. Dispose of your Dell and build your own PC, or get a mate to do it for you.
