How do I rescue a "dodgy" HDD?

I have a "faulty" 4TB WD Blue SATA III 3½" Hard Disk, rescued out of someone's unwanted PC.
It was partitioned by the user into 4 x 931 GB partitions.
It is DEFINITELY "iffy" when installed in a Windows 10 system.
Computer Management => Disk Management sometimes sees it, sometimes just sits there.
When it does see it, I cannot delete the various partitions (Volumes) all of which are described as "Healthy".

How do I format (and hopefully rescue) this disk? Would I have to do it under LINUX (e.g. DBAN)?

Use partition magic mate to delete all partitions and create one big one although i thought you could do that from disk management. Then use any of the disc utiltiies to check for bad sectors, I'm assuming you're happy to lose the data on it? Anyhow you can check for bad sectors with Ariolic Disk Scanner
Thanks for that, I will give Partition Magic a go.

To lose or not to lose isn't really my problem, it is someone else's data and if I can recover anything he will be happy but he isn't overly concerned, he had already given up on the disk. I would just like to make use of a 4TB "freebie" disk if I can sort it out and it ends up being even vaguely reliable as a work disk ;)

Incidentally, there is the following comment on the link you gave me:
Our first impression of Ariolic Disk Scanner was a positive one, but it quickly changed after trying to test it. We suggest you save the space this program takes up and find another way to check your PC.
