For some reason over the last week my Cortana has changed size with out me doing anything to it.

Any one know how I resize it back to normal?

Just looks like you need to resize the start bar, it’s click and drag on the edges. Double check it’s not locked.

I don’t like the prying eyes of Cortana; I cut it out of the registry.

This resolved it's self without me doing anything.

I believe it was a bug introduced by MS which fixed itself. Either just after a few restarts or they actually patched it in a later patch.

Thanks for letting us know it's sorted.

I don't know if its the same for people who use Cortana, but my search bar is much brighter in the latest updates. Preferred the understanded look.

How do you do this and does it affect the Start menu, with searching?

There’s quite a few guides out there. It’s just a few registry edits. The executable still runs but no longer uses much in the way or rescources, and I’ve blocked its internet access with Glasswire; an excellent lightweight firewall.

Search functionality remains, it only searches the computer and says “search windows”.

Much prefer it.

Which part of the the registry do you remove? This the .reg file I use:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search]
"AllowCortana"=dword:00000000

I just realised that I put the code in to disable Defender above - edited now. :o

But it looks we're doing the same changes in the registry.

If you’re interested I can post all of the edits I make to a new windows install. I cut out OneDrive and as much telemetry as I can. I also block internet access/disable a lot of processes.

SpyBot Anti-Beacon is the best start though. It’s simple, but good.
