How do i say Hyperbole ?

Why do you want to start using the word in public all of a sudden ?

For a play im in :(

'Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, but is not meant to be taken literally.'

Wiki

Natasha Bedingfield pronounces it as 'hyper-bowl' in her 'These Words' song - always made me laugh.

But, yeah, it's HI-PER-BLEE with the PER syllable being the long, stressed one.

It's four syllables, not three. The third is just very short.

hi-pur-bo-lee

Hi - per - ber - lee

Basically the same I think, but these are correct. The reference in other posts to the third syllable being 'bol' suggests this is where the emphasis is, but in fact the second syllable is the only place any stress should be placed.

Its a nice word to pronounce.

I believe the Americans do the whole hyper-bol thing, although I could be wrong about that.

It's not hyper-bowl. It always cracks me up when I laugh at people saying it like that and they give me the 'what are you laughing at, do you think I'm stupid or something' look. They just can't comprehend that some words aren't spelt phonetically.

hyper bowl just sounds so so much cooler

sounds like some fight to the death game, where contestants battle it out hyper stylee in a bowl of death!

YEAH!!!!!
