hi, setup my new system this evening and am having problems setting the ram to 1866MHz.
My mobo is a GA-X58-UD3R and the ram is TEAM XTREEM 6GB DDR3-1866 TRI CHA 999-24.
i know the numbers on the ram say 9-9-9-24 1.65V if thats any use.

What problems you having, you will need to manually setup the speed, timing and voltage in the BIOS.

on my old 775 setup, both my biostar and my P5Q-E, i had an option where i could set the ram to 1066MHz, then set the timings and the voltage.
thing is, on this board i can set the timings (i think i just put in 9-9-9-24 and left the other one on auto which is 1) and set the DRAM volts to 1.60 (wouldnt let me do 1.65). but nowhere can i see about setting it to 1866MHz. will it auto change or is there some sort of setting i am missing. there seems to be a lot of options saying turbo and stuff, is it best to leave them enabled?

Will you be overclocking?
Some people leave this enabled to give a boost when needed, I have mine disabled and setup my system to 4ghz.

There is the memory multiplier which needs adjusting, at stock you need a multiplier of 14 (14x 133 = 1862mhz for memory speed.

will be in the near future but at the moment its on the stock cooler so im going to leave the cpu alone for a bit.
so its that simple, i change the multiplier to 14, the rest goes 9,9,9,24(cpuz says this should be 26 at 1866),auto(or what should be here) and its ok to have the dram voltage at 1.60?

I would not worry about what cpu-z shows as the memory was designed to run at 9,9,9,24.
You should be able to increase the ram to 1.64v, Gigabyte seems to use .02v increases.

ah right ok cheers, will give that a go and run memtest to make sure its ok, everytime i set my 1066MHz to anything other than 800MHz it kept crashing, which is whats worrying me.
will i notice a difference?

Hmm. does not sound good, I had major problems with my I7 setup and OCZ ram, had 2 lots of faulty ram, settled for Patriot in the end.

Setup as required and like you mentioned run mem test, if you get errors try each stick individually.

thats what i did with the 1066 (was on my 775 setup) and still no joy so i guess one of the settings wasnt right or something.
have been told by an engineer in our other branch that the XTREME ram is pretty good and stable (and cheap :))

well that was a lot easier, there is an XMP (think thats what it said) setting with a profile saved, loaded that and it set everything up (even correct ram voltage). running memtest now. how long should it take on 6GB?

now i have changed it i cant get the windows experience to complete. i know this doesnt matter as that is pretty much useless, but im thinking is this the first signs of unstability.
