How do I set up my NAS with auto UPS protection

I bought this NAS (6700): http://www.promise.com/storage/raid_series.aspx?region=en-global&m=15&rsn1=3&rsn3=43

I need to know how to set up a set it and forget it UPS protection. My motivation is that my winraid constantly gets ravaged by power outages or crashes and resynching takes almost a whole day.

I also need help buying a UPS. Can you recommend one? Thanks.

Welp... looks like I screwed myself by getting a junk NAS? Only lists 2 models so expensive as to be complete overkill:

Depending on your exact model. The process should be as follows.

Viewing UPS Status
If you have an APC Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) attached to the
SmartStor, you can check its status in PASM.
To view UPS status:
1. In the Tree, click on the + beside the Management icon.
2. Click on the APC UPS icon.
The Information tab displays the status of the UPS.
If there is no UPS connected or recognized, the Status field reports
“NO UPS.”
Setting up a UPS
To set up a UPS:
1. Attach the APC UPS to one of the SmartStor’s USB ports.
2. In the Tree, click on the + beside the Management icon.
3. Click on the APC UPS icon.
4. Click on the Setup tab.
The Setup tab enables you to tell the SmartStor how and when to shutdown
after a power failure.
Click the option button beside the shutdown option you want:
• Disable. The SmartStor will continue to run until the UPS battery is
depleted
• Shutdown when the UPS reaches a set percentage of reserve power
• Shutdown when the UPS reaches a set number of minutes of remaining
runtime
• Shutdown after running on the UPS batteries for a set number of
minutes
5. Optional. If you selected battery percentage, type a percentage amount in
the % field.
6. Optional. If you selected remaining runtime or running on batteries, type the
number of minutes into the Mins. field.
7. Click the OK button

A Nas shouldnt require a powerful ups - A small APC with connectivity should do the trick fine. something like this

Firstly I'd login to the NAS control panel to check it has the UPS connectivity logic as explained above. If not you cannot use it with a UPS in a ideal way. A UPS will work when there is a powercut/interruption, however it won't be able to tell the NAS this has happened, so it cant shut it'self off safely, you will be restricted by the batteries in the UPS.

It's a refurb that cost £50. It's not the exact model listed in the compat sheet, they said RS 1000 and this is the 1500. Hopefully it will work. Otherwise I think I will start from scratch.

It's crappy wiring and the breaker randomly tripping.
