Ive had my TomTom One Satnav for years now, for so long infact that the roads dont match what the sat nav is saying sometimes.

I figured it would be easy, download an app, connect the Tomtom by USB and download the latest updates / firmware.

But it appears not, it seems that I have to PAY for the latest update, I dont want to download extra maps like Europe or other countries, I just want to update the existing UK one.

Has anyone else updated their TomTom? Can you download alternative map software instead of the genuine Tomtom ones? In other words, can you download free map updates from different makers or is the Tomtom one the only choice?

If you're more than a few updates out of date it's cheaper to buy a new satnav.

check your trust email.

I paid £25 I think for 12 months worth of new maps, I had owned it for about 3 or 4 years before doing this.

I wish Google would release an official competitor, they could wipe the floor with the other makes.

You can get free maps from certain *sites* but it involves modding or replacing the navcore with a cracked one. I did this a few years ago to get the full european maps.

I expect TomTom are stuffed.... yes it's nicer to use a satnav than a smartphone, but not the price they're charging nicer, and their update policy is ridiculous.

The only way to get around this is get it on your iPhone/iPad (if you have one), the Apple policy means all updates are free.

So you've downloaded and installed Tom Tom HOME 2 right? Connect your Tom Tom to your PC. Click update and install map share updates. This updates map corrections from other Tom Tom users. The other option is to buy their maps , which are very expensive.

To be honest I've had my Tom Tom for over 5 years and have not updated any of the maps other than the map share updates. It's still taking me around the UK and Europe and it hasn't got me lost yet.
