How do I work a washing machine?

But then it says wash all light colours and all dark colours but where do i draw the line between dark and light? Seperate into whites, pales and darks.

Does light include the bright colours like pink, yellow ect? Yup - this is why I say to seperate into pales, so the darks can't affect them.

Does Dark inlude all the blues, black brown, even very light blues? Mix all the jeans, they'll be fine if they've been washed a few times before. If it's their 1st or 2nd wash, just sling the light jeans in with the pales, dark jeans with the darks - more economical.

What about Jeans do they just do into the light/dark catagorie? As above.

Sorry about the stupid question, but I want to help out a little with the washing, im sure you understand.

Thanks.
Chris.
Once you've seperated all the pales, whites and darks, check to see if there are delicates in there - ie: jumpers, silks. If so, wash the entire load at the wash cycled specified on the clothing label.

Just make sure not to overload the washer. I always aim to fill mine to about ½- ¾ full.
Can you answer all the questions in the op? ;)
Took all of half a braincell.

Get a load of clothes, any will do, dont bother with that separation lark
(unless its a NEW brightly colour garment)
Lob into washing machine till its 3/4s full
Put tablets in drawer
Put onto normal wash
Wait an hour
Take clothes out, put into dryer
Set dryer for high heat and 60 minutes

Iron if your poofy, or if the clothes are for work!

I have been doing washing for donkeys years and on the whole just have two piles of washing, whites, but i will put in light colours and a dark wash including jeans and I wash every thing at 40 degrees, only time I am careful is with new dark colours which can run so I tend to wash them on their own at first.

I do a bag drop and the washer starts, then they appear in the bag again. I could have a good go at doing them myself, but I'd get shouted at if I did it slightly wrong.

My mum says: dark cottons together (40C), anything with a mix of colours (30C), jeans on their own (once in a blue moon), socks get saved up until there's a full load of them.

I find it easier to have lots of socks and boxers rather than have them frequently washed.

Quoted for truth, I generally wait until I have no clothes left to wear, then, confused as to why they've not washed themselves. I'll put as many as I can possibly fit into the machine at once with no thought as to colours and wash them.

Sometimes it shows:D:D

rofl this whole thread reminds me of last month,

my other half was working away in mozambique for the month, anyways come wash day i call her up lol. To be told "im in the middle of kruger park watching some rhino or other and you call now" rofl!!

Think 'lights is whites'... and you can't go wrong.

Any other colour is pretty much darks, including things which are both white and dark in one item, coz the colour wont run in those.

;)

Thanks for the help guys, I know its stupid not knowing how to use a washine machine, but ive lived with my parents for the last 22 years, but recently things happend and my mother has taken custody of my sisters kids.

Shes not getting stressed as she works all day and cant keep on top of the washing, so i want to help out when i can.

Ill let you know how the first wash goes:)

Washing machines are like PCs, you want it running fast and cool, don't mix your components, and if there is smoke coming from the back you've overloaded it:D

I never have a problem when I lived on my own, everything went in on 40' with colourfast washing tablets like Ariel colour. That is the only setting you need imho. Why some machines have umpteen settings....

The Wife though, puts whites together on a hot wash, jumpers on a delicates... I am sure the machine (apart from the temp) does exactly the same things for each one :)

I just fire it all in and turn the knob or push the buttons until it starts to make noises!

Nah,in all seriousness,i asked my gf at the time on the phone how to do it......she explained it all to me and i've never heard the last of it even 2 years on!

I wont even start on how to cook since she's a chef and so on.
