How do I work out my Sync stats?

Hi guys,

I migrated from Plus to Nildram, they said its activated today, so I went into my router settings and changed from Plus to Nildrams settings they gave me.

How do I find out the stats etc?

Is my line going to be unstable? I've opted for the 8mb package, I am less than half a mile from my exchange so surely I could get that?

You router may, or may not show you your stats. If it doesn't, then you can't work them out.

Being physically 1/2 mile from the exchange doesn't mean that the cable length is 1/2 mile so don't go banking on it.

The stats look ok to me.

The best MTU setting is something that can only really be found by trial and error. Personally, I find 1452 works best for me. I assume you're setting the MTU on the PC's to match the router too?

No, I havent changed anything on the PC? Just never changed anything from when I got the router, its always had that as MTU.

It is pointless setting the MTU without matching it on the PCs that are behind it. If the computers are sending packets > 1432bytes then you'll get packet fragmentation and things won't work too well.

You're syncing at the maximum possible rate, but by looking at the SNR, only just.

You'll probably be lucky and it'll be nice and stable at 8meg but you may find the router drops sync a couple of times during the training period if your noise margin drops. Im only downloading at about 250kb's or less at the moment, is that because its training?

Should I be turning my router off or anything?

The internal BT systems (part of the path between you and the ISP) initially limit the connection to 2mbps and gradually increase the sync rate in 500kbps levels to get as close to your sync rate as possible, though this can take a while.

Just checked today and my noise margin has gone up to

Noise margin 8.0 21.0

Before it was 6.1 20.0

Which is better? And why would it change lol

I have set my wireless network channel to 5, does that make any difference at all, it was on 11 before...
