Hi,
Sat behind me today two 'students' laughing like 14 year old boys at the most pathetic things. Dropping your pen isn't funny is it?

Are comments like 'This is ****', and 'I cba', or 'what is this guy on about'. What a bunch of...well, you get the point.

I don't understand how these people are here. Actually maybe I do. The class is mixed with 2 other classes, which obviously had entry requirements that you had to be errmm on planet earth. that's it.

But why do these people come to uni? They're clearly never going to make anything of themselves. I mean, they've already been kept back a year but they still can't be bothered with it? Are they just here for 'free money' becuase they're never going to earn enough to pay it back?

I would prefer it if these fools did this in their own time and didn't waste mine because I would actually love to have a future.

1st year yeah?

Takes a term or 2 to get rid of the "retards" that slip through the net.

The rebellious ones straight out of public boarding schools or the hopelessly thick ones that must have just fluked their A levles.

I remember a lot of shared modules form my first term in Brookes (oxford poly lol)

Some of the people couldn't even understand the most basic principles they I had mastered in my flippin GCSEs.

Yeh first year mate. But these guys have already done this year and have been held back cos they're clearly thick as **** so they're here again.

We'll see if they shut up next time, I don't really plan on loosing my temper because when I do I just loose it. Which isn't the best plan now is it. :p

Sounds like they were high tbh.

I agree, exactly what I thought at first. But overhearing their conversation that they 'haven't been able to get any for days' and have just been bored made me laugh. What are they going to be like baked then? 14 year old GIRLS maybe.

The BOS rule is definitely applicable. You will find that most of the ******* will be finished by the first year though as they realise its not that much of a free ride and they cant take the pace.....unless you're doing History of Art or something similar :p

Computer Systems & Networks. Mixed with ITA and Web Development today. Wtf is ITA?

Ok maybe laughing at a pen is a bit extreme, but i sit in most lectures looking around at all the geeks and losers - who may be able to get good grades - but have absolutely zero social skills, sitting on their own with the most miserable face ive ever seen.

You have a truly awesome life I wish I could have thought of that. Sitting around looking at 'geeks' and 'losers' which instantly makes you cool. Honestly, that makes you sound really sad. Do you have nothing better to do than watch other people because your life isn't interesting enough?

I would prefer to sit with friends, have an occasional laugh AND still learn. If our lectures weren't full of retards making daft comments then I would have nothing to laugh about and my life would be as boring as yours :)

As would I. Quite unfortunately this is my second day in, so I don't know many people yet and am finding my feet. I can't believe how childish some people act.

Maybe he wants to learn rather than prat about like a child in playschool.

Thank You. I'm putting myself in great financial hardship to do this and I want to do it right first time.

Do you feel such distaste towards them because you see something of yourself in there?

I think I was very similar to those who you describe as 'idiots' when I started Uni. I grew up quickly, thanks to my new environment. Perhaps that is also why they are there...

This is their second year they have been held back because they failed it first time around?

I'm at the same uni as Welshy and I can confirm there are indeed a lot of geeks. These are the very same people that are social retards and when they go clubbing or down the SU they just sit there like lettuces not saying a word. This applies to some girls too I think. So many wierdos at my campus because it's a technology one. My course started with 25 people and has dropped to around 15.

:p at social retards. I'm not one of those guys mate I have an awesome social life, i love going out, going to the gym, chilling out with my mates kinda thing but i know the people you are talking about. Oh and btw women are a very very large factor in my life :p

I'd hate to ever be thought of as a geek, it just isn't my thing. But at the end of the day I was there to learn and needed to listen today to what the chap was saying.

P.s. Beansprout, you know anyone who goes to the gym here. I need a training partner

My university offers degrees in "combined studies" which is basically a pick and mix between any class of any level for 3 years. A lot of people get in with lower than required grades because they uni wants more money (so more students) and then they quickly get sent to combined studies. It's actually possible to do three years worth of easy first year courses and make a degree out of it!

My second year maths class was mixed with the electronic engineering class, and most of them were idiots who just messed around and made a lot of noise in lectures. There's a time and a place for that sort of thing, and it's not in classes.

That's terrible. Maybe that's why people think degrees are getting easy.

And yes there is a time and a place and they picked the wrong time, and the wrong place.

its very easy to get lost and caught up in the whole "I must get good grades" thing... ok these two sound a bit dumb, they'll either drop out or catch on and grow up a bit.

Please whatever you do though dont forget to have fun! Seriosely ,if your not the going out type, use the opportunity to try it, go out, get wasted occasionally (or not if you dont drink) meet a few ladies etc then when it comes to years 2 and more specifically 3, do those things but only after youve finished your work!

It sounds simple but youd be shocked how few people manage it. I think i did fairly well (after a slow self conscious start ;)) and the result was a 1st class honours, no soul destroying stress and a damn good time of it! and lots of friends ill hopefully keep in touch with for a very long time.

You genuinely do only get this sort of opportunity to find yourself socially during this period. Even if you do more study afterwards you simply will not have the time or the inclination (as im finding.)

Dont worry the plebs dissapear after a few months ;)

Mate I plan to have fun. I am the going out type I love going out and having a quality time meeting new people. Nursing my cold better now, so should be back in action come mid-week :D

Study hard
Pass your exams
Go to uni
Get a good job

Right, but if everyone did that then....

We would all be robots. But you can do that and have a real good time without messing about at the wrong time and place.
