How do people born blind dream?

no one would ever know :o Unless of course they were a deaf mute, then they couldn't tell you anyway :(

I just can't see how someone born blind could possibly "see" anything. They wouldn't even know what colour is for starters...

I'v never seen an alien but I can imagine what they would look like, I assume they imagine stuff on the same lines.

The man in my head signed me to do it!

The technology is there to input electonic video signals to the visual receptors in the brain, bypassing the eyes altogether. I saw a documentary 10 years ago where they inputed a very basic signal to the brain, not images, but it did work - the blind man could count the amount of dots that he could 'see'.

I'm sure there are tight restrictions on the amount of testing that can be done at the moment, but I belive that in the future, blind people will be able to see again.

Amazing stuff.

think i saw something like this ages back on some discovery channel thing. beyond 2000 or summat.

they put some kind of chip on someones brain and used a camera to take the place of the eye to send signals in. it worked, but there were only a dozen or so 'points' on te chip so that was the resolution of the image. moving the camera around and the guy could see the points 'moving' and going from black to white etc.

iirc, they said they were trying to increase the res of what the chip could take to send more detailed info to the brain.

As I understood it, we don't dream in sound, but our brain fills in the gaps, as it were, when we remember the dream to try to make sense of it. Hence I don't see why blind people would dream sound to make up for not dreaming visual stuff.

It'd scare the crap out of them if they could, they've never heard a voice before, and suddenly one starts up in their head..

I am colourblind. It's not really as amazing as most people think, it's essentially a blending of the different colours into the same thing. For example: where a normal person would see a selection of greens, browns and reds on a detailed painting it would just look less distinct to a colourblind person. A good way of "simulating" it is to look at the more advanced versions of the colour blind tests.

I am quite severely colour blind but even I can tell it's an obvious number 25 in the picture. Because there's only two colours and they're quite far apart (in terms of shade) it's easy to distinguish.

This one is a lot harder though. Your eyes can see the difference but you can probably still understand that the colours are a lot more similar that the colours in the first picture. This is where it comes into play as I can't tell the difference between them enough to make out the number.

I'm colour blind as well and I cant see very much in the second image. To me it could be a 5 a 6 or an 8 and thats after looking at it for ages not a simple quick glance.

What is the number anyway?

My boss is colour blind, makes it kind of hard at work sometimes at the back of server cabinets, "Unplug that green network cable for me.", Me " There all grey "

Edit: ^^ Its number 8

They may learn to associate colours to other feelings though. Hot could be red, blue could be cold, etc.

How would they be able to associate the colours if they didn't know what the colours looked like?
