How do people go through so many games?

It's amazing to me that so many of you can pickup a gamesave weeks or months after stopping for a bit. For me I'll have forgotten the plot and characters and almost obsessively have to restart the game, play it for 30 minutes and realise how much time it would take to get back to where I left off and put it down again.

But then, I usually finish a game in the first few days after buying it anyway, and leave it for a month or two to play again :P

Although lately I've been qite bad for finishing games. For example right now I have Hegemony Gold, Civ 5, Morrowind, Mount & Blade, Deus Ex HR + Original, C&C RA3, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, Rage and AOE online installed on my computer. Hegemony Gold I stopped playing after an hour, Civ 5 I havent played since reinstalling it, Mount & Blade I started a new game with a mod for a few days until Rage came along (which ive completed, one of only two that I have). Deus Ex 1 is still in progress and I havent been on in a while, Morrowind I spent weeks on and stopped when a new game took my fancy. And AOE Online I stopped playing a few days after buying premium ><

I suppose the moral of that paragraph there is that being spoiled for choice can be a really bad thing if you're indecisive, impatient and a fan of multiple game genres :P

I've been trying to go back through games and complete them as I feel guilty about buying new ones. Managed to clear a few so far. GTA 4 is really annoying me at the moment. This must be the 5th time I've started it and having to redo the initial missions is tiresome.

I have so many games from steam sales that there are lots that I have never played or only played 5 minutes. I do sometimes consciously sit down and try to complete a game- otherwise it just feels like you have been wasting money.

Open ended games like sandbox games or strategy games are a real killer for me.most recently minecraft, Victoria 2 and mount and blade have been wasting my time!

I had similar feelings many years ago, between 1998-2003 I was heavily into online gaming then I played a couple of SP games and really enjoyed them, so I decided to make a concerted effort to put some proper effort into completing SP games rather than just looking at them for 20mins and then quitting for good if I wasn't instantly grabbed.

What helps is if you cut out on all the 'extras' that come with online gaming, like spectating games or chatting in IRC/forums. Just focus on pure gaming, whether that be online or SP.

I have about 60 - 70 games I haven't even touched.

I'm working my way through Company of Heroes at the minute. A mission or two when I fancy it. I game a lot less these days though. When I do get time for games, I'm just not in the mood. I prefer to sit and watch some episodes of something or a film. I have lots of TV series and films to get through too.

I'll probably never even install 90% of my games, honestly. Something I'll just have to live with. My social life is slowly getting back on track after some unfortunate circumstances, so I may have even less time for gaming.

Forcing yourself to do something you don't feel like doing, whatever it is, is always a sure fire way to become less interested in it.
