How do people manage their disk space these days?

i had to delete some vr porn so i could install Deus Ex MD (insists on 57 gig space then only installs 25 )

sad days.

I would get a 2TB HDD and plonk my games on that (not all games actually benefit from an ssd), then use steam mover to mklink games over to the ssd. That is, in fact, what I do. Saves me having to spend ages downloading a game when the guys get nostalgic about some huge game we haven't played in forever, and allows me to still benefit from an SSD when I need it

Quite simply to be honest, I just buy more space. Admittedly I do use HDDs and not SSDs for my games but doesn't bother me, I tend to rotate the game I'm playing frequently onto my SSD.

I just copy games I am not playing anymore to my steam/origin library on my hdd. With steam you can copy the appmanifest as well and you don't have to reinstall and wait for it to verify all the game files.

I tried to go HDDless for the noise and space but it a NAS cost to much to justify and fibre isn't happening any time before 2020. Instead I wrapped my HDD in bubble wrap and wedged it under my rad, happy as larry.

I just buy more space when I run out. Decided to get a LSI Raid to expand my little set up and its running a 3TB and 6TB Mirror at the moment on top of the maxed out motherboard.

120mb internet means I can download most games before ive made a cup of coffee, so I just delete games I have completed and re-download if i want to play again.

I only keep games I'm actively playing installed so I find 500GB is enough space although with the ever increasing size of games I expect in a year or 2 I'll need something bigger.

What with Battlefield 1, COD, Titanfall 2 few others I ran out of space on my 512gb game SSD, never has it been known.

My Solution - download Steam Mover and lets me move a few of the games onto a partition on my 2tb hard drive and does all the dirty work for you. Simple as click click done and Steam Client is happy as larry.

Steam Mover

No need for steam mover nowadays area. Allows multiple libaries

2 x 256gb SSD ( 1 = OS, 1 = no specific plan, installed because I had a spare one kicking about)

1 x 6tb HD = Steam primarily
1 x 4tb HD = Origin primarily
1 x 4tb HD = UPlay primarily

I also have three 4TB external drives attached which I use for media and data etc.

Unfortunately I am a hoarder with data, so when I install something or download something it pains me to delete it. This comes back from my days in the UK when I was in a new build property and the maximum speed I could get was a 1mb line. I have 6 other 2TB hard drives that are full with media etc that I normally have connected to my media players.

Depending on which home I am at in India will depend on my speed. Mumbai I get 100mbps, Ahmedabad = 50mbps. In India though, they data cap everything, and to remove the cap you need to effectively keep on paying. Broadband in India is more expensive than the UK.

Your quickest option is probably to delete and redownload.

If your internet is a little slower, you could backup the steam installers to an external drive, and then install from there when needed.

If I won't go back to a game, I just delete it. Internet is more than quick enough to re-download, plus no usage cap.

250GB OS SSD, 500GB Game SSD, 1TB Storage

This! But i've never had an issue, i have x2 500Gb SSD's and a 512Gb M.2 for storage. Also have a back up drive of 2Tb that's mounted in a NAS.

Thanks for the replies lads. Turning into quite a popular thread, who'd have thunk it.

Bit the bullet and deleted some games I haven't touched for ages. It really pained me to do it though! I too am from the age of dial up and am very used to hoarding/ backing up data.
