How do they test for ADD?

It's a simple questionnaire which they give the parents:

Can you be bothered to discipline your children?

Yes?

No?

If Yes, your child is fine.

If no, your child has ADD. Don't worry; whenever someone complains about the horrid little waste of cells you like to call 'son' running up and down the train, hitting people and screaming, you can just say "They have ADD."

You don't even have to get your child to stop what they're doing - it's that simple!

Here's the Ritalin. Welcome to the world of ADD; it will never be your responsibility again.

The thing I hate about reading in newspapers about ADD and similar problems is they always talk about the worse case scenarios, it gives the condition a bad name. In most cases it just acts as a learning disability just like dyslexia. Mine wasn't even that bad, I lose concentration unless its something that interests me and occasionally have a short temper.
I know for a fact I was never anything like some of the "horror cases" you see in papers and online quite often.

As Penski comically demonstrates in his post, half of the time the blame is completely to lie in rubbish parenting. Its sad how its often taken this way.

I'd rather not disect all that I dont like about myself in the middle of a forum. If the best person to help me understand myself is me then I already know the answer. Not knowing about it has just meant I've found ways to cope or hide the issues subconsciously. But sometimes I wish I'd known earlier because then I could have managed my life better.

Sounds more like you need a therapist rather than someone to disgnose you with ADHD, I didn't expect you to share your ideas with the forum... I just believe that you are the only person that you should let have authority to tell you how to improve yourself and buying into acronyms isn't going to help

Therapists never did me any good.

counselling or psychotherapy? Where di you get the therapy?

The reason I ask is becasue there are many different types of therapy and some are more effective than others... feel free to e-mail me if you don't want to discuss over forum...

at the risk of offending anyone that's pretty much as I see it too, I'm not convinced of this as a medical disorder in a lot of cases

last i heard is they will read you a whole book from beginning to end, then ask you a question on the book. if you answer incorrectly then you have ADD, will then be put onto ritalin. resulting in you becoming a phil collins fan.
