Hello,

I want to fully test my motherboard and cpu before giving it to a 'friend' and what can I do to prove that the mobo and cpu has been tested so my 'friend' does not say otherwise.

Start the PC and run some benchmarks to ensure stability and performance.

Ie Prime and 3D Win Mark.

Hmm, this were stability tests should help like the ones mentioned above.

What are the specs of the system?

Well I'm only 'giving' the motherboard "Gigabyte Z87X-D3H" and the CPU "Intel Core i5 4670K".

I haven't actually used it in months and 3 pins on the triangle side have a little bit of white thermal paste on them. I'm obviously going to have to tell my 'friend' that it has the aformentioned problems but it does not cause any issues.

What's the quickest way of testing it? If there is no simple fast way I'll just replace my current mobo and cpu with the gigabyte mobo and cpu but that might take an hour or so..

Oh and also what you suggest is that I turn it on, go and use some benching software and then take a picture with my username somewhere and the date with the results to prove the system works?

Not really, you still would need to add memory and connect to onboard GPU and see if it boots and shows the BIOS screen, but this won't test for stability and possible issues that may arise.

Alright, Okay so I'll just have to do it the long way.

I'll start replacing it as soon as you or I figure out how I can test for errors, and stability. What can test both mb and cpu? If I put it on prime 95 all night on the stable clocks will that be good?

OK sure, I'll run those three for a bit each, is it worth testing mem test because it sounds like that only tests memory? I'll respond once I'm up on running on my old parts, and would it be OK to run memtest from a USB?

Arrrrgh

Haven't tested this mono & CPU in a long time... Powering on fails, it turns on for 3 secs then off and loops. Is this a CPU prob or mono problem?

I have 5hdd connected to power but only my Ssd (main) is connected to the mono.

Everything is plugged out, googled the problem and some say replace is battery?

Try reseating the RAM, replace battery to clear CMOS, disconnect those extra unused HDD's to check the PSU isn't under too much strain so it can't deliver enough power.

Oh..

I think I remember why it might be doing this...

I was cleaning it before putting it in and on one of the little black chips (the ones that look like this - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=i...ting%2Fprinted-integrated-circuits%2F;362;266

there was a small green blob, I thought this was something awful that I accidently stuck on then I scraped it off using some metal screwdriver.. only later realizing what on earth did I have in my home that spilled green liquid? So I checked my current one and realize that it has a little green blob on some of the chips as well.

What is this green blob? Is this important? Or I might just have shortcircuited it with the metal..

Uhhhh, to be honest no idea. It might have been the remains of some writing on the chip showing what it is, maybe someone else has an idea?

'Giving to a 'friend'' Surely he should be doing the legwork. See if he can get it to work, if not then keep it. Unless of course you're trying to sell it knowing full well it doesn't really work properly...

In your other thread, you say you are 'selling it' and want to know about serial numbers etc also covering it for shipping damage
Yet in this one, you giving it to a 'friend'??

If it is a friend, surely (dont call me shirley) you trust him/her?

I wouldnt be going to all this hassle to 'give to a friend', i would say "here you go, not sure if they work or not.... They did but cant guarantee it"
But if you are selling it to a 'friend' (made a buddy on that popular auctioning site?) if you haven't said its working you are ok, could list it as parts/not working?

Back OT, looks like its the motherboard...
I received a motherboard (also gigabyte) from a shop that as a relationship in name terms to a rainforest, the pins was bent on the mobo (no pins on the cpu) and the pc wouldnt boot
Fans would spin for a second then go straight off
Sent it straight back..
If i were you i would sell...sorry give your friend the cpu and not bother with the mobo
