How do websites identify you

The only thing "visible" to the server (the website is running on) is the router and the external IP (the one your service provider assigned to you). Everything else behind the router (and the NAT running on board the router) is "hidden".
Therefore, the answer is no. This is why websites will install a "cookie" on your computer so they can identify the specific machine behind the common IP address.
So based on that, account creation at an internet cafe would solve the problem? (assuming cookies deleted)

No?

Realise I'm being lame here, but why?

If the user has no cookies linking him to the forum, and the network is one he has never used before(cafe), what links the user and the forum? The IP add?

Why was the previous thread closed?! [confused smilie]

Was there a problem?!-no warning? The thread relates to a completly unrelated forum to this one.[very confused smilie]

I'm not trying to circumvent the thread closure, but I would like to at least get a concrete answer to my question!

I'd have PM'd tolie, but obviously I can't!

Is he always going to use the account from the new IP?
No, it's a short term remedy to contact colleagues via the forum's PM system (presume he doesn't have their email). Maybe 2 or 3 days.
