How do You Apply the Handbrake?

electronic handbrake. So i press the auto hold button when i get in the Passat, then when i come junctions, it automatically holds the car until i drive away. When i stop, take fob out of dash it applies the handbrake.

I don't think my EP3 has that "click click click" type resistance. I just pull up, pull the handbrake up, not too tight then release clutch and foot brake, leaving it in the correct gear.

I don't let it roll into the gear resistance before pulling the handbrake so im not putting strain on the gearbox.

So you stall the engine every time you stop? As for 'straining the gearbox', I think other activities such as err driving put about a zillion times more strain on it.

I turn the engine off with the clutch i nand foot brake on. Apply the handbrake then release clutch, leaving in either 1st or reverse, road depending.

Driving will put a strain on them no doubt, but 1200kgs against the gearbox for a prolongued time can't be that beneficial. It's peace of mind.

Yuck. What's wrong with a real handbrake?

How do you do a handbrake turn?

Ever since being chastised during a driving lesson for just pulling the lever and making it go click-click-click, I've for the past 10+ years always pushed the release button in before pulling.

Today I've received what I guess is a safety advisory from Honda, stating that this is the incorrect way for the new Civic as there is a risk of the latch not catching properly resulting in the vehicle rolling if it's out of gear.

So how do you do it?

Jokester

I always push the button, but if thats the official Honda advice follow it, they designed the car :D
