How do you deal with substandard cutlery when dining out?

I don't understand why the waiter in some of the fancier restaurants that I've visited in recent years has made a big song and dance about me choosing a steak knife from an ornate steak knife box that he brought to the table. All I'm thinking in my head is, "As long as it's sharp, I don't care. Just give me one."

look at the grief maccers got when they went to paper straws!
 
paper plates and plastic cups reminds me of a young child's birthday party, also the feeling of plastic cutlery touching a paper plate is similar to freddie kruger and a chalk board.

I'd honestly rather eat out of a mcdonalds hamburger box or a chinese takeaways plastic container than resort to a paper plate.

it's almost like paper plates are made to be washable and reused as well which seems weird.

surely there's a better material and I'd imagine they take bloody ages to breakdown just like a plastic plate would

Seriously don't care. I'm quite happy to eat off something compostable instead of using plastic, even if it's a bit ****. One time use, away it goes. A lot of the old styrene food boxes are now being replaced by this compostable refined cane stuff too. It's very good. :)

Honestly don't get the snobbery that some have at times.

they take 5 years to decompose according to google.

is there no such thing as bamboo disposable plates or something? I've seen bamboo everything else likes it's some new miracle material

They do yeah, but thankfully that's at least 50x faster than conventional boxes. I do agree with this 'miracle' style wonderment at just using what resources we have naturally. Although I guess it's the same as these 'wonder foods' that people are amazed by. Most people just know them as a fruit/salad/vegetable.
 
Personally I’d find the smallest, youngest looking, lowest paid waitress in the place and get all up in her grill! :mad:
