How do you explain the iPad ?

Raymond, why can you not accept that there are many of us out there who do not see the iPad as the best thing since sliced bread. We all know you have a professional use for it and as I said previously it does have a use for such things.

I have an iMac and couldn't care less if people **** it off or not. I'm confident and comfortable enough in my skin to not care what others think and yet you seem to have to rush to defend Apple and their products at every opportunity - why? I think Steve Jobs has enough money not to care what others think also.

I do, we get your point. You said it many times before but what I don't understand why you need to come into every thread and post the same thing week after week.

It is getting very boring.

First impressions for me and from knowing people who have one is it just seems like my iPod Touch on steroids. But I haven't researched much into what it's good for.

For me things like Facebook, Twitter, instant messenger services I'd stick to my iPhone with, because they just feel better suited to that format. What I would use an iPad for:

iBooks/Stanza (I want to build an entirely ebook collection for novels/literature and only purchase/keep physical books if they're things like 'art of' or art instructional material that usually comes in A4+ sizes)

Reeder/RSS as any kind of articles/pictures are going to look nicer on a bigger display

Guitar Pro/Ultimate Guitar/GuitarToolKit as rather than sit at the computer, I'd much rather sit on my Fatsac with the guitar and iPad, just flicking my finger to scroll through a song rather than needing to keep clicking a mouse. Same for using tuners/metronome and so on.

iRhino any other application that lets you show off your 3D models in real-time with rotation/pan/zoom e.t.c (also useful if you connect to an HDTV with the adapter cable)

Web-browsing generally

Some games, particularly ones with thumb controllers, since on the iPhone that kind of input method tends to mask half the screen. Communal games, as well as ones that are a little slower paced or more brain intensive.

Probably more but they're the main ones I can think of right now.

Music apps on the iPhone are awesome, great latency and there are even more on the iPad. I think the iPad is becoming rather popular with many musicians...

Honestly...its not that great trying to sit down and create some msic, i produce a lot of my own stuff, got the Korg Apps, but with the iMS-20, you jsut dont have teh accuracy in turning the dials/ knobs as you would on a fuller larger screen or teh real thing..its certainly a novelty, but when I know of all teh software I have on the Pc with a mouse and a large screen, ya jsut arnt really gonna use the iPad for that kinda stuff..same i foresee in Video editing, tho I think that holds a stronger appeal to the casual mess about person...how do you get teh vids onto the ipad?....either film it with the ipad..not realistc...OR..you have to connect your iPad to the PC..upload....unless their was a feature to BT or wilressly connect your iPhones vids to sync with it....but with 720p files I wouldnt fancy that. Which leads me to a bigger point..DUEL core in it..more ram etc....is this really for gaming...im never gonna utilise thhat power for anythign id rather be doing on a PC.

I find a touchscreen for better than a keyboard and mouse for adjusting filters and parameters in real time, and so do many others. Just look at how successful the Korg Kaos pad has been since it has been released...

You can also get a Midi Mobilizer for the iPad now, allowing you to hook up a midi controller to your iPad or iPhone... Cool stuff and it's getting supported in more and more apps. Nanostudio already works well with it though...

I guess you're never going to see Logic Studio on the iPad, but it will be interesting to see how well Garageband turns out...

You have to remember an iPad is not a PC replacement... but a dual core CPU benefits everything, not just games.

Isn't iMovie coming out for the iPad as well as garageband? If so you can make some music then make a video for it also... ;)

As far as videos, what I suspect will happen is that between Lion and iOS 5, you'll have AirDrop support, which means that you can film stuff on your iPhone when you're out, then once you're home, wirelessly transfer it between devices so you can do the editing/effects on the iPad and then upload it.
