I always hear of people making big money on various shares.

What is the best way to begin to understand them and the financial market?

Is there any simulation software you can use to practice buying and selling shares?

I would start by going to your bank, opening a stocks and shares isa and going from their lol

ags

i do shares through barclays, nothing major but i have a subscription to the penny shaers guide and have recieved some good advice from them.

I just opened a share dealing account with halifax. Paying through the nose in commision but I dont trade very often so it's not too bad. Its really just a hobby but I've seen a 30% odd return so not too bad really.

the spreads can come as a shock as well needing quite a big climb to just to break even

I have a Sharebuilder account with them, lower dealing costs (£1.50/trade) but the deals are only executed on one of 4 dates each month as they pool them together to save on charges.

Ask your company if they do Employee shares like a SHIP, SAYE. EXEC plan! I work for computershare and We must have over 200 companies we look after. Usally it is a good way to get into shares as most companys offer you 1 to 1 shares....so for every share you buy monthly they buy 1 for you as well....after 5 years they are tax free to sell

we do have a share plan and im in that. We pay in monthly, upto 10% of your wage, and at the end of the year we buy the shares 15% less than the lowest share price for that year for our company.
