How do you hold your steering?

Something that got me thinking yesterday whilst driving, for the first time in ages I held the steering with both hands, usually I drive with one hand in the 3 o clock position and arm resting somewhere on the door or 'gangsta' style at 12, but driving with both hands, the proper way, feels so much more nice. I felt more in control and could feel the road more, granted its not always ideal in city driving where your shifting gears constantly, but with a bit more open road its ideal.

So yeh how do you hold your wheel?

I used to hang on with one hand with the other on the gearstick but modifying my driving after my IAM lesson it does feel more natural with the two hands on the wheel, the IAM driving style means you very very rarely need to change gear.

Cruise control on the motorway in the dry, round town or following traffic = 3 o'clock and left arm on the center armrest.

When driving a little more enthusiastically, bad weather, higher speed than usual or something dangerous up ahead, two hands on the wheel in the 9 and 3 o’clock positions.

Pretty much always at either 3 or 6 o'clock positions, right handed. Left arm on centre arm rest.

I have a 3 spoke steering wheel and I hold it in lots of different ways...

1) Left hand on 7, right hand on 5.
2) Left hand on 7, right hand on 2
3) Left hand on 9, right hand on 3
4) Left hand on 10, right hand on 5
5) Race mode: left hand on gearstick (with no pressure, i.e. lightly resting) and right hand on 2

:D

10 to 2, or 9 and 3ish. If I'm around town it's usually right hand at 2 and left on the gearstick.

Same and usually on the motorway around 3ish and left hand resting somewhere or at 9. Depends on the conditions really and whether I am changing gear a lot.

Was quite funny a few days ago I was with someone who was driving with their right arm at 10 with the left on the gear stick. I guess some people find these positions comfortable. :o

They just sit in the crap driver catergory for me. When reaction time to anything has to include time to repositioning their hands on the wheel properly then thats the sign of a pleb.

Pretty much exactly this, for me.

Agreed, I see some people with their left arm in the 2 o'clock position or their right arm in the 10 o'clock position and just wonder how that is workable and how it offers any control
