Just had a message through the contact form on our website.

Do you have any open positions at (company name)?

Name left and gmail address

Nothing more, no sign off, no cv, no indication of any areas of expertise or interest!

Uhhh, yes, CFO and pot washer, which one should we give you??

I should say i did worse when I was 17 for my first job. My 1st job was working for Alfa Romeo in a Dealership. I just walked in with my Cv, not expecting to be interviewed on the spot, so I had no suit on, jeans a Miam 05 Basketball style top, white DC's and some sunglasses on. Did something right as I was called back and given a job - though I did go back in a suit

There you go, you have your reply.

What is the issue with how the question was asked? It make more sense than asking for incredibly specific roles and job titles which vary from business to business.

He could have thrown us a bone to let us know broadly what sort of position would fit him.

That's another box ticked for their unemployment benefits I would assume.
Sadly I think you're right. At a previous employer, we advertised our entry level jobs at the Job Centre. The quality of application was appauling.

On more than one occasion, I was tempted to write to the office and tell them "if this is how someone is applying for jobs, it's no wonder they are unemployed".

Could've been a free agent and a modern renaissance man -- anything would do. :) Should have sent him on a wild goose chase around some random rough trading estate, with his CV in tow! :D Although, a one-liner would've done just as well. If he's serious, he would get his ducks in a row, if not -- no loss to you.
