How do YOU play films on your TV?

Running plex on my PC upstairs and was previously streaming down to a Roku 2 box downstairs via Ethernet cable. My new 930v TV has plex app built in though, so Roku 2 box is now sidelined.

Aside from my Sony Blu Ray Player, most of it is via my Western Digital Media Player. This is hooked up to my media server (currently in the spare room) to stream the movies.

My media player is probably one of the best investments I have ever had over the past few years in respect of raw usage.

Intel NUC running OpenElec (Kodi) on my main tv downstairs
Acer Revo running the same upstairs

A 10TB Server in the spare room that holds all my media. Everything is wired internet as well, I don't bother with wireless

Blu-ray for borrowed discs or or when I cant be arsed to rip them.

Ripped discs & streaming (google play) via any one of my 2 PC's.

When you use the TV App for Plex, how do you get surround audio out of the TV when most TV's only output PCM?

I can see it working on the PS3 as you can go straight from PS3 to amp, then to TV.

HP micro server with OpenMediaVault s a NAS and then Amazon Fires running Kodi. I looked at plex but didn't think the sever was going to be up to encoding on the fly and also found the free vs paid parts rather unclear.

Same as above but with chromecast to cast from various android tablets/phones...

I have a very elegant solution which involves disconnecting my Dell T5400, carrying it downstairs, and plugging it into the TV, then going back upstairs, and getting an old keyboard and mouse out of the cupboard... :D

Remote mouse app?

Nuc with kodi (openepec) serving media from my NAS. The nuc has a pulseeight cec adapter and my reciever supports cec so everything is controlled by my TV remote

The NAS runs central kodi database, so I can pause and resume on alternate devices.

Supports HD audio and 24p.

I also use chromecasts for some streaming uses as they are just simple and also support cec.

Man that sounds like my ideal setup.

It baffles me that so many options nowadays don't support 24p.

At the moment mine set up is a crude 10m HDMI cable from PC to Onkyo AV Receiver. :D

NAS -> Amazon Fire 4k running Kodi

or Plex from XB1

or Plex from PS4

or Media Player from XB1

or Laptop -> HDMI -> AVR -> TV....very rare.
