Iwas having a debate with my wife. About how our daughter should address our brothers and sisters.

Do you address your uncles and aunts as "uncle" or "auntie"? I never would to their face. E.g i would say "hello Ros" rather than "hello auntie Ros". If I was talking to someone else I would use aunt/uncle to describe them. E.g "I went to my uncle Stephens house".

What is the norm?

It was always Auntie Sharon or Uncle Mike for me but if I see them now its just Sharon and Mike. I call the wifes aunts and uncles by their first name.

One of the wifes cousins hardly ever says aunt or uncle. The rest of them all still say auntie Lynne or Uncle John or whatever.

Depends on the person. There are some of them where there is more of a down to earth and less formal relationship than compared to others. With some, I couldn't imagine not saying "Hello Auntie / Uncle...", they're usually the ones that I hardly see anyway, which I guess helps to keep the traditional and formal address.

Depends who it is. Different family members I call by different things. Probably about 50/50 though between Uncle .... and just their first name

just to put it out there, its more a respect thing, why not call your mom/dad by their names either?

in asian culture, we "think" its respectful to not call people (Older than us) by their name and instead say uncle, auntie etc etc

Never really got on with any of them, apart from Uncle Vince. So I don't refer to them, 'cos I never see them, apart from Uncle Vince and I refer to him as..........Uncle Vince!:p
