I know there is a thread asking about what anti-virus you use but how do you fully protect your computer?

At the moment mine is AVG virus scan and firewall which are on constantly and Mbam and CCleaner which I run once a week.

Is this not enough? I have had nasties on my laptop but never on my new rig with this security running. (Or at least not that I know of lol :()

So how about you?

AntiVir with Vista Firewall

Aye, its a handy tool that not a lot of people seem to employ.

In vista64 I use uac as well (non-privileged account in linux obviously). And noscript on firefox.

Desktop: Comodo Firewall, opera browser with Admuncher
Laptop: Comodo, Avira Freeware, Admuncher

And....

never had a virus in 10 years of PC ownership!

Laptop:
Linux Ubuntu 8.10: Firefox with No-Script... nothing else.
Windows XP Pro: Zonealarm, AVG, Spybot and Firefox with No Script

Windows XP Pro 64bit: AVG, Spybot.

Common sense
Firewall/Router
Antivirus
Up to date software
Running in a limited user account
Strong password

I run Linux in a virtual machine if I'm feeling particularly paranoid or want something off bittorrent. I also check what processes are running periodically just to see what's actually going on.

Common sense is King however - avoiding the bad stuff in the first place is the best defense. If you read up on how malware works, how it spreads and why you'll know exactly what you need.

Also keep your doors locked at night and if you have a laptop you take out and about with you, encrypt the drive.

Internet connection through a router

Linux: Ubuntu 8.04LTS, non-priviledged user account, daily cron scripts for (rootkit) RkHunter & Chkrootkit, firefox + addblock - easy list + french subscription, noscript

Windows: Vista, UAC silent, Avast + Comodo firewall, CClean, malwarebytes, spybotS&D, firefox with adblock + subscriptions, noscript

Thats all...maybe I've been lucky...

I notice a few of you use Avira Antivir. Is there anyway to stop it stealing focus when it updates? It's more than annoying when it happens mid game and I can't restore the game window.

A Cisco router with NAT and in the ACL I only forwards ports that I need. No UPnP or firewall.
Comodo firewall set to disable, windows Firewall off (somehow managed to turn its self on and annoy me today though...)
NOD32.
Firefox with no script and CS lite.
Password set for RDP, not very secure one though. Auto login as well for Windows. Ubuntu (default boot option) has a very secure password (mixed case, numbers and characters based losely on a couple of words unrelated.)
