How do you secure your computer??

On XP Pro I have NOD32, Windows Firewall and Spybot, I also run windows with a LUA so if something does try to install... it has limited rights.

Above all though, as has been said... common sense

Kaspersky Internet Security (for a Laptop)/Kaspersky AntiVirus (for a desktop)
Spyware Blaster - IMO an awesome application :)
Firefox
Common Sense
UAC on Vista

For a free AV i'd use Avast.

I posted this before in another thread but here it is again..I've never had a virus on any machine I've installed.

OS:
- AVAST (Standard resident shield only, scan on create/modify and scan dll files only)
- CCleaner (fortnightly run)
- Spybot (monthly scan for tracking cookies removal, if any)
- Windows disk cleanup (fortnightly clean)
- Windows Firewall (laptop on wireless so protected when connecting to unsecured wifi)
- Router firewall blocking ident/portscans etc
- Once a month - Run a system AV scan in AVAST and If I'm in doubt about anything then I go to ESET NOD32 online scanner and do a quick scan online as a 2nd opinion.

Browser:
- Noscript (pretty much stops all browser based exploits used through compromised sites)
- Adblock with EasyList filterset subscription (self explanatory)

With that....you'll never have a problem and your system will not slow down at all.
