Is it push the gearstick down and select first?

Thanks in advance.

[edit] PS. I don't have a Mini lads. I was asked the question, so thought I'd ask here since this forum has pretty much the best motoring knowledge of any I use :)

Does it not say in the manual?

Edit:

Before selecting reverse gear, ensure the
vehicle is stationary; then, fully depress the
clutch pedal and pause briefly before moving
the gearshift lever into position.

5-speed transmission:
Press the gearshift lever to the right and to
the back.

6-speed transmission:
Press the gearshift lever towards the left.
Thereby overcome the slight resistance and
press forward.

No pushing down required, just use a bit of force to go "beyond" first.

Coming from someone who less than 3 mins ago, reversed a Cooper S.

I googled "how to engage reverse mini cooper s" too but had no luck so I just googled "mini cooper S owners manual"

My google-fu is strong ;)

I'm fairly sure it's just a switch - how hard can it be?

It isnt a switch, you have full control over the nozzles via a throttle like control in the cockpit, its substantially harder than looking at a gear knob and seeing where the gear you need is, like in the doughnuts case in the opening post.

Surley you would just try until it engaged reverse :p

It may sound like a daft question but the a Mini Cooper S is the only car I've struggled to get in reverse :o I also struggled to work out how the windows worked to shout over to the owner for help :o :o

I dont understand the struggle, it sounds like exactly the same method as my mondeo. When I got it, I hadnt driven a car that worked like that before but I figured it out in about 5 seconds

it's not quite as simple as the mondeo iand, i actually had to phone fox when i first bought the 330i, and couldnt get out of the pub car park where i'd stopped for lunch on the way home!

you have to really give it quite a shove to the left to get it to go in, where as in the mondeo etc there is a lever you pull up on the gearstick to allow it into reverse.
