How do you show disapproval towards Publishers/Developers

I do still email them with coherent criticism (no point swearing etc. or they're less likely to take it seriously). Most large publishers have mechanisms to collate feedback and the good ones actually listen to it and make changes for the future (although not necessarily for the current game you have the problem with.

I also vote with my wallet, I absolutely refused to buy any Ubisoft games after the way they so shamefully punished they're paying customers with Assassins Creed 2 (shame, I loved the first game and would have happily bought all the rest but did not). I may consider buying AC3 if I get enough positive feedback from friends etc. Basically I believe in supporting dev.s like Valve, Bethesda etc. and not the likes of EA.

I have never pirated a game (yet!), as I believe in supporting games publishers to make even better future games but I would not rule it out as a last resort for something truly diabolical (say, like something EA would do if I still bought their games, which I now avoid).

I think it's good that people are making a stand.

I don't mind developers/publishers selling DLC or giving bonus content if it's something extra they've worked on, the trouble is they are starting to get greedy and lazy and cutting out core parts of the game to offer it as something extra. Where will it stop if people just repeatedly accept it?

There's a phrase we use in the gaming industry to show disapproval of practices and it's called "Vote with your wallet." By not purchasing a game you don't add to global sales and then publishers take notice.

That's the same thing as piracy no? if anything piracy is better because "voting with your wallet" just shows them that there is no interest in the franchise, who would make a sequal if nobody is buying or even pirating it?

I am never pre-ordering another game again after Hitman Absolution.

I will wait for all games to be under £10 in future (or wait for a company to screw up and sell a new game for £5 - a la Far Cry 3) :D

The only exception to this might be Rome 2, because i have loved every single Total War game and it looks totally awesome. Every other game im waiting for the bargain bins ( which for PC games only takes a few months :D)

I just take it in the a$$, usually. Maybe a moan in internet forums but it wouldn't necessarily stop me buying future games from them. e.g. Far Cry 2 really annoyed me with unpatched game-breaking bugs that took me weeks to find a workaround for (ironically involving reinstalling the game and deliberately NOT patching it so I could exploit another bug to effectively move through a wall!), but I still got FC3 via AMD promotion.

I just dont bother with it titles at all if I'm displeased with either the publisher or the developer.....
Then often wait for a steam sale or a similar bargain bin offer.

There's very little excuse for that though these days. Within days of release you'll have a fair idea whether it's a gem or a turd, between forums, reviews, youtube footage etc.

Unless you pre-order, which is a complete mugs game anyway.

Pretty sure I said in the same post EXACTLY about reviews/critics/forums not being a good indicator, that was until a mod decided my particular mention of piracy deserved the entire post, not the line in question being deleted yet leaves the whole topic up. Ironic.

I find a lot of games masses of people like are awful examples of games and wouldn't spend more than a day trying it, if even that.

I don't trust other peoples opinions, nobody should; everyone has their own.
Pretyt obvoius really, I never ever gauge a purchase (for games/films) on opinions. I form my own through trailers and gameplay videos.

Sometimes it's hard to tell though and no amount of praise or dissaproval will be able to tell you if you'll really enjoy it or not.
