How do you show disapproval towards Publishers/Developers

Would you pirate? Would you vote with your wallet? Would you start a Blackout similar to what was done with BF3? How do you get publishers to take notice?

I'd not pirate, I see pirating as a means to get software for free, which has nothing to do with making any kind of economical or political statement.

As a side note, I've tried piracy on psx, psp, ds and pc. Every time it has the same effect, I get games and do absolutely nothing with them. This is in direct contrast to me buying games, where I complete 95% of them and feel satisfied and a sense of accomplishment, something piracy absolutely fails to give me.

Firstly I vote with my wallet, I'll wait 3+ months and wait for it to be in a steam sale or just generally cheaper at an online retailer. I buy a lot of games these days, but only the really important ones get a chance of being purchased at launch by me.

If I really wanted to get a publisher to take notice, I'd make a well written constructive post somewhere they will see it, forums, twitter, facebook are all options these days.

Once enough of a movement has picked up and some developer reactions/replies have come back then it's time to approach the gaming press in the same calm, constructive manner and hope they've got a dry news day or believe in the cause enough to post an article.

Same as the majority here, I don't buy it, unless it's super cheap. I won't pirate it either, chances are if I don't want to buy something when it's cheap I won't want it when it's free and there's no harm waiting for it to be cheap, tons of other games out there to play that I do want. :)

Also a difficulty is only available in a certain edition of Metro? That's a really strange decision to make  I know the argument of content in a game that is DLC or charged extra or whatever is overused, but a game difficulty for a certain edition of the game at release is pushing it slightly for me. xD

So if something is rubbish is it ok to steal it?

no its not okay ! but... like i said i understand why some will pirate it if its ****

piracy spin is just a marketing tool they use you to buy there **** games they putting out. don't put crap games out put effort in price reasonable if not stellar they will sell still. look at big games that sell gazalions do them companies cry about cod piracy ? nope !

just same with music or films greed over content and then they wonder why people do pirate.

I just really hate it when you buy something that's complete crap and have to deal with that choice.

There's very little excuse for that though these days. Within days of release you'll have a fair idea whether it's a gem or a turd, between forums, reviews, youtube footage etc.

Unless you pre-order, which is a complete mugs game anyway.

In some cases I think yes it is just spin, the big developers can swallow a certain amount of piracy but a small developer that is struggling in a crowded market place needs that revenue, the only time I could agree with someone getting a pirate copy of a game is, If they own a legitimate copy but that game has ridiculous DRM that restricts or hampers how the game or your machine runs.

But if you don't preorder then you don't get access to the most Interesting mode in the game.

It's a short sighted move born out of THQ's dire financial situation they are trying to make as much cash out of the game so they can stay afloat, but if what they have done alienates the series fans they will shoot themselves in the foot & garner poor sales, it may be the end of them, but it will also be a massage to other dev's who may consider this sort of move in the future, & by the same logic if it works expect more of this to come from others.

So how in this day and age do you show disapproval towards publishers or developers?

go to their Head Office and fling your turds at their windows while shouting 'smell that and know what you are !!!! "

Alternatively you could box up one of your turds and post it to them with a letter explaining why.

In both cases please ensure that you have had a suitably hot ruby washed down with around 6 pints of cobra to ensure maximum aromatic fragance and substance.

Not buy it and send an email to support telling them why I'm not buying it.

They probably don't read or pass on but what else can you do?

Edit: Does read like a middle aged shout out :(

:)

I show it with my wallet. I loved the Anno games and would love to give Anno 2070 and settlers 7 a bash but because of Ubisofts ridiculous DRM ontop of steam etc I refuse to buy them.

"dont buy , pirate" - perhaps one of the most ridiculous arguments ever, your still playing the game and no doubt enjoying it , it effectively makes you a scumbag thief.

or alternatively you could be like the millions of COD fans out there that voice their disapproval of the franchise every year and then proceed to rush out on day 1 to buy it. herpderp!

Someone with sense! :D

I just don't buy their game, it is the only real choice as a consumer as it is the only thing the companies care about. I used to go ranting and raving on forums as well about why I don't buy a companies games and why I dislike them (EA and codemasters main ones I don't buy) but all the negativity just got tiring as it is not why I choose games as a hobby in the first place. So I just don't buy and move on, sure I do miss out on an amazing game every now and again but there are many other great games out there so it is not like my gaming time isn't well spent.

I don't pirate, never have, never will but I am not judgmental about those who do.

I really cannot stand this trend of pre-order bonuses. It should be my right as a gamer to see if a game is good or not before splashing my hard earned cash, and when I do so I expect to receive the WHOLE game. We need a gamers constitution!

what other product in the world do you get to "choose" if you pay for it or not depending some arbitrary reason BUT you still to keep the product?

what a load of rubbish

if you want to pirate games just get on with it quietly dont bother trying to justify it

anyway am I missing the point? people who want to buy this game and also want the preorder dlc ? why dont they just preorder it ?

Food at a restaurant. You can refuse to pay.

Given that you cannot (often) test a game before habd?, like you can test drive a car, or play with an example on the shop shelf and because you lose the right to return once you effectively test the game out, I.e online codes...then games are unique in the respect that, like food, you don't know how good it will be till you've tasted it.

and you would eat every mouthful of food and every drop of drink before you told the waiter you didn't like it would you?

as long as that meal is prepared reasonably if you don't like the taste that's your problem

once you have played the game, eaten the meal or watched the film the cat is out of the bag, you don't get to choose if you pay or not based on how much you liked it, its not up to you to make that decision, the game company isn't offering you that choice and so anything else is at worst theft and and best simply being a bit of a git

Actually, at a decent restaurant they generally will be very accommodating (as long as you don't take the mick and send back plate after plate ;))

Which is exactly why people have started waiting till a few weeks after release to see if games are any good - because of the ever increasing trend of releasing low quality, bug-ridden, rehashed tripe. Of course publishers/developers have gotten wise to this, hence the recent surge of day 1 DLC and pre-order incentives - they don't want you to wait and find out that the game isn't worth buying.

Your missing out buddy. :)

Oh I've played it - got a copy off Lovefilm on release day for a couple of months

Would buy it to play again, but every time I consider it, I figure I may as well wait until the DLC is out.

Hear that Bethesda? You've got a guaranteed sale here if you sort your act out!! :p

So what would people's opinions be on buying a legit copy, and then pirating a copy with the extra difficulty setting? You're still technically paying for the game, and then "stealing" something which should have been in there anyway.
