Of course when imgur goes offline, gets bought, or changes its address all the posts will be full of broken links. We've seen this before. Remember photobucket? Even Google Picassa?

Generally it's better for forums to pull the image then host a version. Quite a few do that these days. Of course you then need the storage.

OCUK has always been a bit oddball when it comes to images.

Or you host it yourself somewhere.

If you start allowing random users to upload stuff to your forum server it can become another level of complexity and liability for the forum, not to mention another cost to factor in.
As we're not primarily an image based forum I can't see a need for us to host the images.

I like Imgur, I realise that if it goes offline, that is a problem but in the 10 years that I have been using it. Not really THAT big a problem if at all. Am I in that much a hurry to post a reply on the forum? Am I that desperate? I don't think so, I can wait until it comes back on.

The good thing about IMGUR is that it stores the photos chronologically of when it is uploaded, I can go back page by page easily. I can also use the same image link across multiple forums and platforms and link to it. I don't need to upload the same image on here if ocuk host images, then upload it again somewhere else. 1 upload, 1 link.

Free, cloud based storage, easy to use, works everywhere, even has an app.

I suppose that you would only need the photos on the thread for a short time but i know sometimes people read old threads and would like to see photos. I don't understand why this forum can't have direct image uploads.

I can think of many reasons:
-Bandwidth/storage cost.
-Higher security risk of allowing users to upload files
-Risk of being sued for hosting copyrighted or illegal content

Yeah I suppose you have a point. I did think about storage after posting.
