How do you work out your average speed over a distance.

For example coming back from Norwich today I did 210 miles in 3hrs 18 minutes which I thought was pretty good for a Pug 306TD including having to slow for road works and small roads etc

Cheers :)

Average speed = Distance / time taken :)

So... 210 / 3.3 (0.3 is 18mins in hours) which = 63.63mph average speed.

I press the OBC button, until the display says 'Average speed' ;).

In my Golf TDI, I managed to do 470ish miles across france in exactly 6hours 20mins, so averaged around 75mph.

Ahh come on dude, you have two numbers, one of which is miles and the other is hours - and you want to know miles per hour? Blah :p

That's pretty speedy btw!

Hey not bad then. Damn those road works and the M25 :)

Took me 4 and a half hours on the way there, shows the difference rush hour traffic can make...

handy tip for any measurement:

'per' just means 'divide'

so miles per hour - miles/hours
applicable to all sorts of things but I can't think of any good examples right now

Pfft :p

On my private road with Will Gill as co-pilot we did 585 miles in 6 hours with 2 fuel stops and a 30min food stop ;)

To calculate my average speed I bought a mondeo Ghia X and pressed a button on the trip computer.

Now I have been relegated to Rover ownership I also have to change average speed units to miles per day. lol.

Cambridge to liverpool, also in a 306 DT, no stoping, no lifting my foot up even an inch....... 190 miles........ 2 hours 10 mins.

Was new years eve and the beer waits for no one.
