As title really, just woundering how a socket pin would get bent, and how easy they are to be bent, unintentionally of course.?? Only reason i ask is my RMA mobo has been void of its warranty due to apparently one of the socket pins being bent. I dont see how this can be as the Q6600 cpu just falls into the socket and out again without any force needed what so ever

Maybe from incorrectly applying the guard that protects the socket, and causing it to push on the pins. Hard to do, but still a possibily I guess..

I dont remember having a problem refitting the guard, seem to clip on easily. How about the heatsinks with x-clams with the spring loaded spins, it you were to tighten up one side completly would this put pressure on one side of the PC and cause the socket pins to bend????

Can't answer your question on how you could have bent the pins on your board but if it was the Abit in your sig you could contact Abit....

http://www.abit.com.tw/page/uk/contact/index.php?pFUN_KEY=18000&pTITLE_IMG=

as they offered that very repair for around £12 IIRC.

I have often wondered how those pins could get bent or broken as they do seem to be quite well protected, but more difficult, I guess, the straighten out if they do get bent..?

You should be able to bend it back if it isnt too badly bent - also have to be careful it doesnt snap. Depends how badly it is bent in the first place really.

Oh well, ill try it when i get it back from OC and if it still works ill ebay it. Already bought a replacement mobo so i wouldnt of be without a PC for a week or so while it was getting looked at, as OC said they would give me a refund, any way to get out of giving me my money back i guess

You shouldn't use the forums to complain about OcUKs procedures or service - it's a direct breach of forum rules, and this is your 2nd thread relating to this matter. This should be taken up directly with the store.
