Hi, just wondering how Alcohol effects Exercise?

I read somewhere or been told something that sounds ridiculous to me that if you get properly drunk your adrenaline levels stay lower than usual for 8 WEEKS! Is there any truth to this or have I been grossly misinformned?

Any other effects please tell, obviously theres the dehydration part.

Whenever I get tanked (and I mean TANKED) I feel pretty weird (Sort of drifty) for about tha length of time... wouldn't be too surprised if it's true.

I'd heard before that testosterone was inhibited but some of the information appeared that it must be a cumulative effect which simply cannot be true otherwise I would never be able to produce testosterone again and I simply can't credit that idea at all (mainly that it is cumulative and doesn't reset after a certain point).

If you are serious about your training then alcohol probably isn't a good idea, it dehydrates you, gives you "empty" calories and it inhibits testosterone. :)

If you've gotta have a drink Taurine can help limit the dehydration and test inhibition.........as i understand it :)

So if I'm drinking Red Bull and Vodka I'm helping my training regime? Tonight I shall be superhuman then. :D

I was just talking generally, most of the people I know who are serious about training don't drink or drink very little. I'd defer to your knowledge on the effects though since I'm only going on second-hand information anyway. :)

Taurine is ideal for those poeple. I, like them, don't drink regularly but sometimes you've just gotta have a binge with your mates and get hammered. I always load up with taurine before drinking then afterwards have taurine and glutamine. Glutamine depletion is one cause of hangover along with dehydration :)

They put taurine in the Red Bull to combat the diuretic effects of the caffeine. Only in smalls amounts though and not enough to combat a hangover.

I take about 5g before I go out and it really helps. I think drinking enough Red Bull to get 5g of Taurine would be lethal.

What is taurine and Glutamine? Chong, do you buy your taurine as a tablet or somthing? So after a few drinks and before bed you have 5g of taurine and it helps not getting a hangover?

MTA99, how do you load up on tauring and glutamine? Pills? Does it actually help?

Have a look in this thread for some info on taurine http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17695480&highlight=taurine
It's an amino acid and found in food, very cheap, versatile and effective.

The main reason I use it is it's excellent at keeping you hydrated, probably why it helps with hangovers. I take 5g with a pint of water, then drink another pint of water every couple of hours while I'm out drinking. If I've had a lot to drink I'll have some more taurine before going to bed (if I can remember!) It's also very good for helping you sleep!

Taurine For just £2.49 per 100g ;)

I always recommend my code MP5500 for a 5% discount on your first order but hardy seems worth it lol :)

Glutamine I wouldn't bother with. I tried it and found it to be a waste of money, others swear by it. On the MP forums most are in agreement it's useless apart from helping to settle your stomach as none of it actually gets through your system and into the muscles, 99% is wasted or something like that.

I have a very bad sleeping pattern so maybe a little of this stuff before bed might help?

Also, i always feel really dehidrated when im out on a night out, its not so much the booze but the dancing that does it, although im sure the booze dont help! So maybe i should get some and try your method?

Do you know anything about ginsing? Is it worth me getting any? (I ask you because you seem to know about this stuff!)

Don't know how alcohol affects training but judging by some of the massive bodybuilders around my town on a Saturday night boozing it up, i'd say it probably helps them :p
