How does bank transfer work?

Sorry if this is a stupid question as im sure most people know this, but ive never used it, basicly i want to sell some stuff in MM, have always used paypal but i now hate them due to the problems i have had with them, how does bank transfer work as that seems to be the most popular method, i have online banking etc set up.

Within your online banking, there should be an option to create a new transfer. You can then put in their details and the amount you wish to send. It will normally take 2-4 working days if going to a different bank or same/next day if the same one.

You give them your
name
sort code
account number.

They then either do it over the counter (ie in the bank) - instant
Or online - 3 working days. Unless they have the same bank as you.

Totally safe and no fees.

with barclays online its done via paying bills rather than transfers (they just do between own accounts). Same process as above though.

Can you only input money with acc and sort, i.e. if i give someone it, such as work, they can only put money in, not take money out?

Yes it is fine, these details are displayed on your debit/credit card anyway.
