How does Insurance work?!

They just don't give TV's catchy names any more :(

Edit: unless your old one was HD then i doubt they'll go for that.

They have already offered a HD model, so that won't be a sticking point

EDIT - You are right about the name though....Panasonic give them good ones though

They only offered you an HD model first because you can't get an LCD these days that isn't HD - well OK you can, but its difficult.

The F86 is £1000 worth of LCD however more importantly its 40" and not 42" - so it's not like for like.
So OK you could argue that it is in their favour - however if they can supply a similar specification to your current TV 42" then that is the option they will take.

What was the model number of the panel you dropped?

Insurance has always worked fine for me, Dropped pc downstairs was medium spec have a new for old policy. They offerd a rubbish dell worth 600 quid. I asked for one of the dell gaming ones at 1400 worth or cash. They sent me a cheque for 1400 and I used it on OcUK. So the same should happen for you and if your not happy just contest it.

More than insurance. Renewal went up 34 quid though.

but a top of the rage gfx card from 4 years ago could have cost more than an ultra but would not be its equivalent.

you get a Tv that will be of the same size /quality as your old one.

I used to be insured with a rather good insurer that knowingly replaced my PC with a better one after it was stolen. I gave them complete details of the PC that had been stolen. I didn't have receipts and it was built from components rather than a specific model, but the insurers didn't mind. I gave them multiple quotes, some for a like for like replacement and some for more modern kit (the PC was over a year old at the time). The more modern kit was better than the exact replacement, but also cheaper. I explained this to the insurers, who told me to get the better kit and have the bill sent to them. They also paid boarding up costs (the cheque arrived 2 days after my claim), replaced a video recorder (3 days) and paid repair costs for the damage done by the burglar (3 days after I returned quotes).

Then, a few months later, they stopped taking money from my account, although the direct debit was still active, and I wasn't insured for about 8 months (which shows how little attention I paid to my account - I didn't notice the lack of insurance payments). Not so good.

My mum stood on my last Laptop, we had new for old, they sent me an almost identical Laptop, except with a faster processor..

I don't understand why you expect a better tv to replace the one you had. You pay for insurance to cover your items in case of loss or damage, not to upgrade stuff every few years. You shouldn't be getting a tv that costs the same as the one you broke, that's just stupid, you should be getting one that is the same spec.

But that's exactly what I'm querying....My policy states 'New for Old', and I have sent in a link to the modern-day Tv equivalent. It cost far less than mine when I bought it and is not as 'top of the range' as mine was when I bought it...
