How does my Steam account keep getting hijacked?

Could you start a new e-mail account and use that for steam. :/ might help. Hopefully you dont get hacked again. Gotta hate these scum bags.

Do you have a smartphone? This is how my email got hacked -custom app with a logger. I was using dolphin borwser at the time, wouldnt go near it with a bargepole now.

I think that's my account, it has the name the same as I had it, all the games that I had, it is using the picture that the hacker first used when he first took my account and the steam id is similar to what mine was - markrawr

couldnt find that profile? :( have you tried contacting valve via a telephone? maybe help some more?i know my college tutor had problems with steam for various other reasons and a phone call helped him quite a bit, sorry to hear about your account being hacked.

My mates dad got hacked on steam, and cleaned his bank account out of almost £200 on games :( spose that why you dont keep your bank details linked with your steam account :|

Yeah standard iPhone, so I would assume due to Apple's strict testing this should be ok?

I've borrowed my friends laptop, did a few scans to make sure it was clean and then installed Steam on that, changed my password using a 32-char random password generator (which I have written on a piece of paper for now) and verified my email etc, lets see if he is able to get access now.

I'm going to wipe my hdd, maybe do a few passes of dban and then reinstall windows etc again this weekend but I'm not going to install Steam on it for a while and see how that goes

If still using Google Mail account did you go through all the setting tabs? As can set up forwarding email and probably more options allowing a 3rd party to still read messages.

Just pray the little bar stool has not cheated on it, if he has and Steam's VAC system has caught him then say bye bye to playing on VAC protected game servers.

if he has a rootkit / keylogger it will not likley find it..

he needs to do a combofix, then a malwarebyte scan...

Just trying to help, and its free.

Also the latest version of AVG, has root kit detection.

My personal security is comodo firewall free edition (best free firewall) and AVG free edition. (there maybe better antivirus out there, but avg is free, and I dont seem to need to to wrestle with malware)

Havent seen a virus in years.....

I do agree tho that a combo scan is always a good thing.

Check your gmail account and
goto settings check under "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" for any emails that have been added. then check under "Accounts and Import" click the link for "Google Account settings" and check that no emails have been added there that can recover your gmail password.

then sort out your steam stuff

I have just had a message come up saying that my account was logged in elsewhere. Apart from changing the password, which I promptly did, what else is there I can do? Could it be a bug? Should I take it seriously, and take it further?

Have you verified your account?
Your steam account that is, have you gone throught the email verification process?

Thanks for the reply. :)

Yes, I have verified it, quite a while ago now.

Edit : What I don't get is, I thought that it isn't possible to have the same account in use on two separate computers at any one time. When this message came up that I mentioned earlier, I was already logged on and had just had a fairly long cs:s session.
