How does running affect cycling?

Other than the lack for cycle training the effects should be beneficial.

Also, cycling can lead to low bone density and running raises bone density so that should be good for you.

cheers, planning of keepin the cycling up and adding in the runs in between
perhaps 5 days cycling and 2 running

Positive: running helps build support and strength around the knee which is beneficial. I find running improves my VOmax more effectively than cycling.

Negative: I have to reduce my cycling if I'm training for a long running event (e.g. marathon) because I get knee pain from the additional cycling. You may need to do the same. I'm ok with 5-10k runs, but when I regularly go over 10 miles then the cycling starts to get in the way of my running.

yeh. noticed recently that my left ankle starts to hurt after a little while of walking, and same with swimming. dunno if running will make it worse or strengthen my ankle.

may just stick with cycling and swimming and not do that event but do some sportives or something instead, as not a fan of running anyway

I've not noticed any change to my cycling ability since I took up running in August last year. Admittedly I am not cycling anywhere near as much as I was this time last year, but on the few longer rides I've taken I've not had any problems as a result of running. I haven't really suffered any injuries, however, other than some minor hip pain early on. To be honest, such things are to be expected when you start a new activity, especially one as high impact as running. As [DOD]Asprilla says, the overall effect should be beneficial.
