How does the 970 reference cooler compare to the non reference ones ?

I have just seen this question posted on another forum as someone is looking to buy the reference version and wanted to know how the cooler performs.

pretty good, ive been dabling in a bit of overclocking today and i set up a fan profile and at 60% the top card stayed in the mid 60s
