How does your persona change on the forum?

Exactly the same except I'm heavily moderated on here, if not there would be ****ing carnage.

I'm a **** on here and I'm a **** in real life, I get by.

definitely tone down my language on forums :)

i'd say i talk to people on here/wherever in a similar fashion to how i do when i first get chatting to a stranger, maybe a bit cautious as to not cause offence and try and be nice.

after you've known me for a while i'm a complete **** :D

As in, do you come across differently on the forum to any degree than you do in real life?

I would like to say 'no, of course not!' but I feel that isn't entirely true. I'm remarkably silly in real life so on the forum I guess I come across more formal, but then again I'm addressing a bunch of complete strangers and I imagine most people tone down the more eccentric parts of their personality when meeting new people.

I think a lot of members are far more provocative, dismissive and negative than I bet they dare to be in real life due to internet anonymity.

What do you think? Do you come across differently on-line?

I am much more bipolar than in my professional life, but behave similar to how I appear to my friends and family in private.

I find comparisons between RL and forums are quite misleading.

Forums are different to RL. There are very few situations in real life that are anything like forums - so comparing behaviour on each is a bit weird.

In real life you cant go and have loads of discussions and debates with hundreds of other people at the same time. Perhaps if you could, then people would act different during these than they would with family and friends?

I'd say im pretty much the same. Only real difference for me is that in real life (due to my job) I have to be a lot more careful in what I say. I have same opinions and will react the same in real life but on here I can "let loose" a little and say what I actually think without moderation rather than having to be careful of what I say ie. I can be a lot more blunt and confrontational which I cannot normally get away with.

I don't tell the better nate than lever joke irl :o

Thank goodness for that, you'd only have had time for about six conversations in your whole life if you started that nonsense when away from the convenience of cut and paste. :p

I'd think I'm much the same on the forums as off them, a bit less inclined to get into religious or political debates off the forums perhaps and I'm less sarcastic on forums generally but the latter is down to difficulties with the medium as much as anything else.

Ummmmm I am actualy more toned down on the forums than in the real world so to speak.

I must tone it down in public I cant though I like to have a laugh but I get carried away all the time.
and I act stupid 99% of the time though all my friends......Ok my friend......all right I have no friends but my mummy says I am smart.

That's what I was trying to get at in the OP, although not very obviously.
