seriously considering an upgrade atm, i have a i7950, but its seriously p****** me off trying to overclock it and keep it stable (novice)
wondering how easy it is to overclock the newer generation of processors in comparison?

for the 'k' series cpu's, overclocking is laughably easy due to the unlocked multipliers, they will crack 3.8ghz on stock cooling, 4.8ghz with high end air cooling, and even 5ghz+ with some watercooling loops (though i do not recommend or promote this :D)

just make sure that you get a motherboard with overclocking capability (most have them, so dont worry unless you are cheaping out on the motherboard. (DONT DO THAT!) :p

If Turbo works like it does on my 930 the 2600K will run at 3.8GHz without any overclocking at all at stock anyway, so that's hardly impressive. :p

Going to be the first to say don't upgrade just for the sake of being able to overclock. the 950 is a very good chip still and you may as well wait until next year when the new Intel CPUs are out.

If you're struggling with the 950 overclock then I don't see how a Sandybridge would help TBH as i7's are pretty forgiving clockers as well. What are you currently running at?

Only 3.8GHz on one core though.

Sure my Z68 motherboard allows turbo on either 1 core,2 cores or all 4 cores or does it just run turbo slower when using 4 cores,i've come from X58 so this Z68 is new stuff too me.

Plenty of motherboards allow you to change the turbo multipliers but standard turbo, without tweaking the BIOS, is 3.8GHz on one core, 3.7GHz on two, 3.6GHz on three and 3.5GHz on four.
