The kids laptop (Acer 1560) screen has gone. (picture works when I use the VGA port to TV).

They are about £60-70 on fleece bay. But how easy are they to replace.

Dead easy, just remove the rubber/vinyl screw covers around the top and bottom of the lcd beze remove the screwsl, then gently ease it off by pulling it towards you and maybe go around the edge with a credit card or similar to pop the clips, then remover 2 to 4 screws front the edge of the lcd panel, lean it towards you and under the lcd connector and possibly web cam if it has one. It should then be free to remove, fitting is a reverse.

Pretty easy, normally you just need to remove the rubber screw covers and take off the ones on the front of the screen itself, then take off the plastic bezel around the screen. Then inside there will be metal strips running along either side of the LCD itself held in with small screws, and the cable going to the inverter at the bottom somewhere.

To sum it up, just be careful with the screws and remember how it all went together to start with. Also Dont rip out the LCD connector on the back of the panel without taking off the tape that holds the plug itself in.

EDIT, beaten to it ;)

I have an Acer 5315 sitting here, if the screens are compatible, give me a ding dong. Its one of the Asda cheapies off over a year ago. The motherboard went and it does nothing.

Hmm, depends, connectors are usually proprietery. I can pop it out and have a look, take a couple of pics. Such as the connector plug, mounting area etc.
