anyone gone into depth doing this? i'd love to but honestly don't know where to start. i have asked my parents a few years ago but never really got anywhere.

I traced mine back to Gaius Julius Caesar.
I wish. I come from such a mixed background that it would be a long painstaking process. Been considering it for a while but it doesnt interest me enough. I have never traced back as far as my great grandparents.

Some years back we (my family) got a call from a woman who was doing this. What she did was simply call around, ask who their grandparents were and what they did, who they were married to etc and then built a network from there collecting pictures and stories.

Took her about 3 or 4 years I think before deciding that she had as much info as she could possibly gather. She made a book out of it too. Very interesting to read :)

uncle is a heritage guy back to about 1100s i believe . benjiman caunt is one of my relatives which was interesting to find out

My grandfather paid a company quite a bit to trace our family back to 1066 - that was 5 years ago or so, never looked at the results, imagine they're quite interesting. Shall have a dig!

To around 1265, but maybe 1324

So Im the only Real English bod on this forum, please leave you immigrants:D

Not so fast you. We went back to the 15th century and lost the trail there. My mom is still digging but the road seems to lead north to Sweaty land. I think we'll stick to 15th century and stay there. :D

My granddad traced us back to the 1600s, but it gets hazy then. Doesn't help that there are about 803,273,278,182,232 Robertsons in Scotland :D
