I'm similar to you. Even though my eyes are OK (I have very weak glasses) I can't help being drawn closer to the screen.

(all measurements to my head).

26" monitor. Some where between a metre and a metre and a half away.

At work, 22" wide screen monitor (I think): About half metre to 3/4 metre away.

For ergonomics I think eye level should be at top of screen and when sitting stick your arm out screen should be just over arms length / adjust to suit readability.

When playing games with a Mouse and Keyboard about an Arm's length, When playing Third Person/Driving games or watching TV/Movies about 2 feet. When browsing about an arm and a quarters away.

Less the arms length, well basically arms length if I were to place my hands flat against the screen with my arms out infront of me. But my monitor is smaller than many, it's 21.5" with 1920x1080 resolution, so fairly fine dot pitch.

I actually changed to this from a 24" one though, I prefer monitors around the 22" size, I'm not sure why exactly ...they just seem to gel with me since I can sit at my usual distance from them while keeping the entire unit easily within my view, I prefer not to have my vision totally filled with the monitor, I just feel more comfortable this way when using it for longer periods.

hehe - well to be honest I've been with my 2x SDMS74's (17inchers) for the last 5 years+ (used to sit 30cm away) back when they used to cost 300£ each, so not keen on giving anything away :)
