How fast are police cars?

Enough of the legendary Volvo T5 myth. 140 is about the most you'll get, 93-00 850/V70 T5's, even the R, are not THAT fast. Most you'll get is 155 out of the later R's.

People seem to think any Volvo with a T5 badge is some sort of equivilent to a Lambourghini Estate. This is far from the case. They USED to be comparatively quick, but this was 15 years ago. These days, the performance is not as special as the legend suggests.

Come on get your facts right the quoted top speed of a standard T5 V70 which the police use is 155mph not 140mph, they come as standard with 260ps/350nm, remapped remembering these are not the narrow blocks used in the Focus ST so much more tunable with an aggressive map 320ps/450nm is possible thats almost a 20% rise in power. Do you really think that with 20% more power that its not going to hit a real 160mph which is only 5mph than its standard topspeed.

around belfast they have a modified evo or sklyline. usually pull up beside boy racers, egg them on and then nick them for speeding 40 yards down the road

Isn't that a bit dangerous, since they could potentially intitalise a possibly fatal high speed chase?

This would be illegal :S

It's no myth Fox. They are electronically limited to 155mph.

Which, last time I checked, was not '160+'. Many regular German saloons are limited to 155mph. It does not make the T5R a Supercar. And actually only the manual gearbox T5R's are limited to 155mph - the regular T5's are infact quite a bit slower than that, and most of the T5 range does not even break the sub 7 second 0-60 barrier.

All i can say is that it could have done more than the 140 we got it to. If i remember correctly it is an X reg. It was right fast, mind you anything is faster than my Corsa! lol

Who mentioned 0-60 times? These cars are about 10 metres long so they are never going to be quick off the line. It's once rolling that they come into their own.

Why said the T5R cars are supercars? Mines not a T5R anyway.

Even the slowest V70 T5 cars (1999 onwards) came with a minimum of 240bhp/310Nm and these remapped to 310bhp/430Nm.

The manufacturers specs say these cars are electronically limited to 155mph but those who have bought ex police V70 T5s found that they actually pull right off the clock. Maybe a remap is needed to remove the limiter but regardless this thread is talking about the cars themselves, which can do 160+ no problems. I wouldn't have thought the police remap the cars though.

At no point has anyone went a T5 is a super car, it was stated that they can do over a true 160mph which they can when remapped. Regular T5s are not quite a bit slower than the T5R on topend anyway, the V70 T5 model which the Police use has already been said has a quoted top speed of 155mph exactly the same as the limited R at 155mph. Even the slowest manual T5 they do at present in the S40 is capable of 149mph which is the same 220ps engine as the ST. All manual T5s bar the C70 will hit 60 in under 7 seconds also.

But by far the majority of T5's are not manuals, they are automatics. It's not this thread I was reffering to, just a general attitude amongst people who are into cars that the T5 is some sort of amazing supercar. It's not, it's a reasonably quick Volvo.

I think you're getting confused with the 850R and T5R who's manual had more power because it used a more powerful turbo unit than the autobox.

Who says most T5s are autos ? Not got a clue why you are referring to comments in another thread regarding them being supercars when it was you that mentioned the comparison in this thread, however I agree they are not super cars.

I would class it as at least a quick Volvo rather than reasonably quick, most people would call a car that can do 155mph standard or over 160mph remapped as quick and it would take a very quick car to get past one in a straight line anyway may be why the Police have so many of them on patrol duties.

i know some of the rapid response cars are tuned slightly. ie chipped.

a local scooby was doing the rounds and he lived next door to my mate, got talking and he mentioned it had been rolling roaded and chipped to give it a bit more. also heard courtenay the vauxhall tuners did some astra turbos once didnt they?

I've never seen an Astra Turbo be used as a police car. They usually use diesels anyway. The 280bhp Vectra that was referred to is the VXR and they are real license losers considering they are just an over-messed-with RepMobil.

Our local copshop uses an unmarked silver Evo for trawling the A23/M23.
Proper sneaky.

There's a black Volvo estate down our road and it booted it up past me the other day. I must say it caught me off guard, it was definitely unexpectedly quick.

Not that it helps your 160+mph discussion though, I just thought I'd chip in. ;)

they say its a supercharger?

Lol at making cop go off, reminds me of that vid floating around with the woman at the fake steering wheel :D

any damage, internally or externally, would be answerable by the driver and would result in disciplinary action.

Rubbish, where on earth did you hear that??

A slight tangent: has anyone in Northumbria got pulled over by this yet?
