Guys am thinking of having only M.2 storage in my PC and having the stuff I no use much stored on ext USB3 2.5" hard drives.

But I don't know how fast 4TB or 5TB 2.5" USB drives are these days

Usb 3 speed is fast but the mechanical hard drives have slow read /write speeds so it will only transfer at the hard drive speed.
Plus you won't get caching on external drives. External drives should be used for backup. Either get a larger M.2 drive, more than one, or an internal SSD.
I was thinking of having a 1TB M.2 for my C: Main drive and a 2TB M.2 for other stuff like games
And using a 2.5" USB drives mainly for a backup of my steam games (about 4TB)

And swapping the 2TB M.2 to be my main drive and buy a 4TB or 8TB M.2 when the 4TB or 8TB M.2 prices do come down (i may have a long wait :D)

As am not willing to pay £700 (4TB) or £1400 (8TB) just for a single M.2
